Betty and I went down to Belmont, NC to visit the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens on Tuesday, April 13 and had a wonderful visit. It was a little early for the Summer flowers but it was such a beautiful day that we just couldn't wait. The skies were crystal clear and filled with Carolina Blue and the temperature was in the mid 70's. The theme at the gardens is the culture of the Southern Front Porch. There were plenty of places to sit and look out over the beautiful lawns and smell the flowers that surrounded the porches. There was an artists' competition for garden chair design. Some were very comfortable and some not so much! We had a nice picnic we brought from home. It's not very far from home, only 40 miles one way. We went up to Statesville High School last night, April 15th to see Amanda participate in the 2010 Iredell County Honors Band. She was honored as "First Chair" in the baritone section, and she received a certificate. The honors band is comprised from middle school bands from all over the county, and Amanda was the only student selected from Troutman Middle school to attend the event. The students spend an entire day learning one-on-one with music teachers from around the county and then participate in an evening concert of music they learned that day. We were very impressed with the quality of music we heard from students who do not play together regularly. They were superb. Click on the picture to see the pictures we took.

Betty has been helping Kiera with her senior project at Mooresville High school. Kiera is learning to decorate cakes, and has made several. She made a cake for the Youth Group at Watermark Church and then a fondant covered cake to take to her project board. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

We attended the Watermark Church Refuge event on Wednesday, May 5. The Youth Group of the church gave a spectacular concert.
